Building Security Practices
Card Keys
Access to the building during normal business hours is through the front doors that open onto the first floor lobby or through the G Level tunnel from the Norm Maleng Building. Tenants may proceed to their floor via the passenger elevators or via the stairs; please note an access card may be required. After-hours and weekend access will only be available through the front doors with a building access card and passenger elevators will only operate with an access card.
All access cards and ID badges for Harborview Medical Center employees will be provided through the Harborview Badging office. For lost access cards or ID badges, please contact the Harborview Badging office at 206-744-3254. For an access card malfunction, contact Access Control at dpsacc@uw.edu.
Do not allow anyone to follow you into the building after business hours. Anyone authorized to enter the building after normal business hours will do so with a programmed access card. If you encounter someone having difficulty gaining entry to the building, do not let them in. Instead, instruct them to use the intercom at the entrance of the building to reach Security for assistance.
Elevators
There are six passenger elevators that service Floors 1-14. Standard elevator operating hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. After hours elevator use is by badge access only.
Deliveries
Property Management must be notified in advance if you are expecting an after-hours delivery or service. Delivery or service personnel who arrive after-hours without prior notice will not be granted access to the building.
Deliveries can not be accepted by Property Management staff, Security staff or other vendors. Every effort will be made to contact the proper person for delivery before turning away packages.
Stretcher Patients
Recognizing that the Ninth & Jefferson Building is an “off-campus” building for the Harborview Medical Center and does not have the same medical equipment and resources as the main hospital, patients arriving on a stretcher may not attend appointments in the building. Patients on stretchers will be sent to Harborview, their clinic will be contacted, and the clinic will make arrangements to see the patient at Harborview.
Office Access
After-hours visitors, contractors, and vendors will not be allowed access to a Tenant’s premises unless the Tenant provides a written notice to the Property Management at least one business day in advance authorizing the visitor access to the Tenant’s suite and only limited access will be supplied.
To maintain building security, it is important that doors remain locked when employees are working in the evening and on weekends, including when they temporarily leave the suite to go to the restroom or run an errand. This reduces the chance that those working off-hours will leave without re-locking the door.
Emergency Telephones
There are emergency telephones throughout the building, including the garage, stairwells, elevators, and outside the main entrance to the building. All automatically connect to Security. Security is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days week.
Security Escort
The Security staff will escort Tenants to any location within a one block radius of the building. To request an escort, please call 206-744-6591 or stop by the Security desk.
Suspicious Activity
If you encounter a suspicious person or observe suspicious activity, contact Security immediately at 206-744-6591. An officer will be sent to investigate.
Thefts
Report all thefts to Security immediately after discovering an item missing. Be sure to report missing items to the police at 206-625-5011.
Workplace Violence
Contact Property Management to discuss any potential incident of workplace violence or harassment. Call 911 and then notify Security directly at 206-744-6591 in the event of a dangerous situation. Always move away from an aggressor if possible, and remain calm and non-threatening. Never try to overpower the person or make sudden moves, especially if a weapon is involved.
